Pros: Standard flight
Cons: My connecting flights were terrible. I was kept at the airport on a layover to another city and they wouldn't let me board because they said my passport number was entered wrong on the reservation. This made no sense as I had gotten off another flight on my way back home. No one at the airport in Shanghai was helpful and it was really frustrating to think that I would be stuck in China. I was finally able to track down a international supervisor who was able to print out my boarding passes and let me board my flight. Unfortunately, another family with small kids were dealing with the same issue as me only their flight was leaving in 30 mins. I hope they were able to make their flight.
The business seats were modern and comfortable. I felt the meals were rushed; didn't finish the salad before they brought dinner; and didn't get offered a glass of wine during dinner, and asked about desert before finishing dinner. Meal was not a relaxing experience. The entertainment on monitor locked up several times while watching a movie; my wife had same experience watching a t.v. show.
Could not check in online, because the app was not accepting my permanent resident card number and expiration date. Tried entering the number several different ways, with hyphen and without, with letters listed on the card and without, but it just would not work. Ended up having a seat in the very back of the plane. App also said there were no meals on this over 10 hours flight, which I did not know when I booked the flight. Made me very unhappy. Signage at check-in counter was poor. It was impossible to see which destination queues we're for until one was almost at the counter. Was assigned Group 4 for boarding, but no sign was set up for this group. People did not know where to line up. What a disorganized mess! Plane was overbooked, and passengers who volunteered to stay behind had to be given back their bags which delayed takeoff even more. After arrival in Houston, pickup by my driver from the terminal was difficult and a mess also. Not sure whether I want to use UA again.
Cons: Hong Kong Air wouldn’t give me my boarding pass until I had booked an onward flight leaving Thailand. I wish I had foreseen this, it’s annoying having to book a flight in 5 minutes when you don’t know your travel plans.
