Trains to Boston will stop at one of the three major stations. All of them are well-connected to the city center. South Station is very close to the city center so you won’t have to travel far; in fact, the distance is walkable. If the weather and carrying luggage make walking undesirable, the metro is also an option. The red and orange line on the metro will take you to the center, but it will require a short walk from the station to the metro stop. At North Station, both the green and orange lines depart directly from the station and go to the city center. The orange line also connects Back Bay Station to the city center. Finally, ride-sharing apps, like Uber, are popular in Boston and can easily be called from any of the three train stations.

Trains to Boston will stop at one of the three major stations. All of them are located near the heart of the city, so you will be close to many top attractions. South Station is very close to the New England Aquarium, a tourist favorite, which also offers whale-watching cruises. The Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum offer a glimpse into history. Near North Station, you can walk the Freedom Trail, an iconic trail that connects 16 significant historical sites, such as the Paul Revere House and the USS Constitution. Close to Back Bay Station, you will find the Boston Common gardens, an urban park with historical significance.

Boston trains are serviced by three major stations in the city, South Station, North Station, and Back Bay Station. Boston South Station offers services such as ATMs, shoe and luggage repair, and baggage storage. There is free Wi-Fi available and plenty of shops and restaurants to enjoy. Boston North station is located within the TD Garden building, home to the Celtics and Bruins. Here you will find several sports shops for souvenirs and plenty of fast food and casual dining options. At Back Bay Station, there are not as many services available. There are no dining options within the station, but you will find many restaurants just a short walk away.

Boston train tickets can be bought at the ticket sales desk on the grand concourse for long-distance trains, such as Amtrak. For the MBTA commuter train, you can purchase tickets from the ticket vending machines located on the grand concourse and at various locations throughout the station. All three stations are open from early in the morning to midnight to service Boston trains. If there is a delay or other special situation, ticketed train passengers may stay inside the waiting area outside of these hours. The bus terminal has different hours and is open seven days a week, 24 hours a day. The hours of the restaurants and shops within the station will vary.

There is a taxi stand located near South Station between the train and bus terminals. Here you can easily get a taxi no matter what time of day your train arrives. At North Station and Back Bay, there are no designated stands, but there are many taxis around. There are no rental car agencies located directly in the stations; however, all three of them have options very close by.

The ticket price can vary depending on general demand and more importantly where you’re coming from. If you’re leaving from a popular departure point like New York for instance, prices usually start around $70. Philadelphia and Portland, Maine are other options, with prices usually starting from around $88 and $96 respectively.
