Luxury Car Rentals in Playa del Carmen, Mexico

When you rent a car in Mexico, Avis is the way to go. In Mexico, there is a mandatory liability insurance required by law. That insurance is rarely covered by your personal insurance and is provided by the car rental company. If you rent with other company, they will charge you that insurance at very high costs (an extra at your initial booking price). But at Avis Mexico, there are no bad surprises. That insurance is always included in the online booking price. Again, Avis is the way to when you are renting a car in Mexico.

- budget said they didn’t have my reservation on file because I made it 24 hours ago - they said they’ll do a direct deal with me - they charged me $76 / day instead of $37 as agreed per my Kayak booking - they charged me extra for insurance (the Kayak price didn’t mention this ?)

Takes hours to fix a car

The location of the office is wrong on all GPS apps, so it took us almost an hour to find. The number we called from the email confirm couldn’t find our reservation so couldn’t verify that they were the right location. When we got there, we had to wait 25 minutes for the person in front of us to get their car. Then when we got to the front of the line they said they didn’t have our reservation. We made it that morning and they said it takes hours to get to their system. So they spent 30 minutes calling budgets help number. Then when they confirmed it- they said I had to pay a minimum of $60/day for insurance or put down a $2,500USD deposit plus $8/day to track the vehicle. I reserved the vehicle until 7pm, and when I said I would be back around 5 or 6 they said they close at 4, and we had to keep the car for the night. If we wanted to park it in their garage for the night it would be $15/hour. It took about an hour and fifteen minutes from the time we walked in the door at budget to the time we got the car. When we returned the car that took another 25 minutes and they couldn’t figure out how to give me back the money they placed on hold my card at time of reservation. I am still waiting for that $250 to be returned to my card.

The car was clean and had no problems and the pre-inspection was thorough. That gives a very comfortable feeling It would have been more comfortable if the tank was full. We now had to stop for gas soon after we picked-up the car

They tried to overcharge us. They took ages to assist us. Super bad manners and attitude. Never ever recommending this to anyone.

They didn’t find the reservation. Also, they told me that if they could find it, it will be a $35,000 USD deposit. Which is a straight-up lie. Completely unprofessional and lazy.

What a scam. I spent an hour on research. Received confirmation email for decent deal. After travelling for an hour to then pick up car, despite the email confirmation the desk said there was no reservation. Doubled the price and had to suck it up as I was there in the office with no transport. Beware.
