If passengers are arriving on Indianapolis trains, they’ll be getting off at the Indianapolis Union Railroad Station. This train station is located right in the southern part of what is considered downtown Indianapolis. Depending on where their final destination is within the city of Indianapolis, it may be possible for travelers to easily get around by walking as opposed to finding public transportation. For example, Monument Circle is just a few blocks away from the train lines at Indianapolis Union Railroad Station, as well as the known 19th-century Catacombs. The walk from the station is not very long. Nonetheless, there are a few bus stops a couple of blocks from the iconic Romanesque-Revival train station. For instance, along W Maryland Street, you can find the 8 bus route that goes east-west through the city, and the 18 bus route that goes north-south.
Passengers who ride trains to Indianapolis may wish to stay near the train station for multiple reasons. Having a hotel near the station can allow travelers to leave their suitcases and other belongings and continue exploring the city with their hands free almost directly as they get off the Indianapolis trains. In this case, the Indianapolis Union Railroad Station has a magnificent hotel within the actual historic Romanesque Revival building. This hotel has a grand hall that dates back to World War I and is open for events and weddings. There are more modest places to stay right near the Indianapolis Union Railroad Station as well, putting travelers in a convenient area right by downtown Indianapolis.
