they entered the wrong drop off destination ,when dropping off the car they tried charging me double of the agreement in portland
Pickup employee was efficient and friendly. Dropoff employee was impatient and disappeared before telling us receipt would be emailed... we had to ask another renter. It would have only taken a few seconds to communicate this, as well as "thank you". There are many other choices.

The staff were helpful and when I mentioned the car I originally rented had no functioning front turn signals they gave me a nicer car w/o hesitation. The nicer car however was not very clean. There was an artificial fingernail in one of the backseat door compartments and a large rock under the front passenger seat. Other than that I was very pleased with the overall experience.

Reservations vastly underestimate actual charges. Vehicle was dirty inside and out, so i switched to another vehicle that was dirty outside and smelly inside. Charges added for late return of vehicle, due only to the Avis desk being closed during return time. Google maps indicated this one-hour closed period (12pm-1pm for lunch), although Avis still accepts return times during this hour. After waiting 45 minutes for the clerk's arrival, the vehicle will be late, and an extra day's rental rate is charged. Avis, a "budget" car rental company, charges as much as blue-chip rental companies through hidden charges and fees, misinforming customers and scamming for late returns. Car rental companies with better vehicles, service and prices APPEAR more expensive while browsing for rates, but Avis, with an inferior product, will squeeze even more money out of the customer in dishonest ways.
I had to wait over an hour for the only person working the rental desk at the hotel to show up. I kept calling and he said 10 more minutes and I will be there.

I thought my reservation at budget was for a car but when I got there the only thing they had to offer me was a pick up truck at the price quoted. To get a car would have cost an additional $100. The classic bait and switch. Therefore, I just went to Thrifty and got a Camry for $150 less than what I would've paid for the pick up truck. The customer service at Thrifty Rent-A-Car was welcoming, efficient and all-around great! I'll never use budget again.

Price was very good. Car was a good car for my time in the area. Car was very dirty and had scratches on the right door. I took a photo on my phone, and wrote down on the form regarding scratches, and was told I could drop it off before or after renting the car. I went to do it before I left, and the line was so long that people were pushed back outside the very small office in which 15 people were now ahead of me. Decided to drop it off when I returned the car, which I did.

No one bothered to tell me that the rental counter closed at midnight. I arrived 3 minutes late, due to flight delays, and found the counter void of life, while several of Thrifty’s competitors remained open to service their customers. No one from Thrifty or Kayak bothered to message me to learn of my ETA. I returned to the rental car center the next morning to find that Thrifty had not held the reservation for me. No one bothered to message me that Thrifty did not hold my reservation and that I would have to make other accommodations. This forced me to step over to a competitor’s counter and pay twice as much for a car. Big inconvenience. Big expense. Big disappointment.

There were no cars available when I arrived, and a line and waiting area where people (with reservations) had been waiting for hours. I got a refund because the scenario was terrible, and ended up taking Lyft instead.

I did not have a good customer service experience. Hertz did not tell me that the car would not be available at the airport. An hour before my pick up time I had called and the agent told me that I had a 24 h grace period. However, when I got there there was no car and the agent wanted to give another vehicle at 287 a day, which was 200 dollars more than what I had spent for the total 2 day reservation. In addition, Hertz send me back to the third party which send me back to Hertz, and no one was able to help me. I am calling my bank to cancel the transaction.
It was the best car rental experience I've ever had. Everything went smoothly and the car was terrific.

I actually got really messed up because I kept putting in tbt airport code ‘PWM’ that works everywhere but on your site, so when I had to type in Portland manually, Portland, Oregon came up and my car was booked for Portland Oregon instead of Maine. So I would like to suggest that people have the additional ability to search via airport codes. The guy at the counter said it happens A LOT. Such a bummer since Portland Maine was the first Portland in America. And Portland Oregon doesn’t even have a port. :-p

Better maintenance on vehicle needed. Wipers needed replacement and vehicle should be rented in cleaner condition . Especially where it rains and snows so much. Other than vehicle was as advertised.
