The pickup in Albany, NY was horrible. The desk agent had a very snide attitude and gave me a hard time regarding using my wife’s card when I reserved the car. Even if it’s your policy, which I don’t think is good for your company, his approach and demeanor escalated things to a point it did not need to go. The drop off in Norfolk was almost as bad. We pull into the designated area in the parking garage and there’s no one resembling an agent there waiting to accept the vehicle. We go into the terminal and wait in line for the Avis, not Budget desk because no one is at your desk. After waiting in line the desk agent says oh no, you just bring the keys back to the garage and put them in the drop box. Nowhere was there any signage indicating what to do to return the vehicle. Then we want to pay with cash and are told you don’t accept the legal tender of this country for payment. To top it off I get a text and a call later from someone there asking where the key fob is for the car as if there was someone or something other than the drop box to present it to. And because of the lack of personnel at Norfolk, we also left without knowing the final bill total. This is unacceptable business practice and why we will not use Budget or Avis again.

The car was great, customer service was terrible and web site was out of date. I called the local number to reserve a shuttle as per the web site, but was transferred to call center. Three calls and three hours later I had been given false info, transferred, and hung up on. There is no shuttle and no local number. P/U location was a mall, but there were no signs for Budget. Wandered for thirty minutes before discovering that the office was inside the Avis office.

The Budget location at the mall is not for travelers flying. Open 10-4 with no key drop for after hours. Staff was nice but had no cars for reservations already made. I was lucky and got a major upgrade because nothing else was available. I was able to return the car to the airport location which was nice.

We inadvertently booked the downtown Albany location but intended to book at the Albany airport. This may not have been completely clear during the options available during booking. We understand and agreed upon the non changeable and non refundable booking policy but based on our senior status with some confusion it would have been nice if Hertz KAYAK to provide us some wiggle room to change the pickup and / or return location even if it meant a slight increase in fees.

They claim cancellation can be done within 24 hours. They don’t add the caveat that “they’re closed” when you call to cancel. There was no way to cancel on line. Beware. It’s a $50 cancel cost.

When I went online to rent my car, I started on the Albany Intl airport (ALB) site, I picked my deal and thought I all was set. When I arrived at the ALB counter I was asked for my name. When the attendant couldn't find my rental, she asked for my confirmation number. Then I was told my car was rented from the Hertz office on Central Avenue (CA), approximately 5 miles away. I then asked if there was a shuttle over to CA, and when she said "No", I asked how I was supposed to get there, she shrugged her shoulders, and said, "I don't know, how about a cab". I luckily was able to get an Uber ride to CA. When there, I asked if I could drop it off at ALB and was told I would be charged $59 for some kind of relocation fee. First of all, there should be some kind of warning when you're sent to an alternate site for your car. Secondly, I think its BS that the car can't be dropped at another (same company) office. I was happy with the original deal but when you tack on another $40 for round trip Uber or $59 for relocation fee, it's ridiculous. I won't be using Hertz or Kayak in the future.

pick-up and drop-off were a breeze. My only complaint is the passenger side headrest had a bunch of long gray and white hairs sticking out of it. I'm sure belonging to the people who rented the car before I did. Fortunately, I didn't have any passengers with me, so it was only an eyesore.

When dropping off they told me not to wait in line just that they’ll email me my receipt, but I still don’t have it or know how much I was charged. When I picked up car they made it seem like there were a lot of extra fees.

I meant to pick this up at the airport, but somehow, I had to pick it up at a mall. I took an Uber there, and couldn't find the place, so I walked through the mall, asked questions, and finally found it. Had to drag my luggage around with me. The car was parked quite a distance from the actual office in a sketchy parking area. The car smelled of skunk - apparently the previous driver had run one over. Also, there was a loud sound coming from the tailpipe. Usually my experiences with Avis have been great.

Arrived in Albany and went to Avis counter to get car. He flatly stated that I did not have a reservation. I asked him to look again as I had made reservation in June and had called Avis just that week to verify. He then said oh you are at the Colonie Mall. I was confused as I thought my pickup was at the airport. I asked where the shuttle was and he pointed to a phone and said I would need to call for a taxi or uber. We took a taxi (25.00) and when we got to the mall around 4:30..it was CLOSED! No courtesy call, text or email from them! Our taxi took us to a motel around the corner (85.00+) walked over the next morning at 10. Muhammad was cool, aloof and had no apologies for our trouble..adjusted our charges by 25.00..no offer to et us back at end of trip. We missed precious time with family, lost a night at our time share, spent 85+ extra for hotel, taxi 25.00 and uber 12.50.

Booked Albany, assured airport because that is what was requested. Found out at airport that rental was 2 blocks away and by the way they were closed after 4:00. Flight landed at 8:00. When I called to say flight was delayed agent said sorry they would be closed and there was no option. ALTHOUGH airport Avis was open until after 11:00. AND of course the cost went UP to pick up the car from where I thought it was rented.
