Most attractions in this district are nearby and walkable. Most other downtown districts – Crossroads Arts District, Power and Light District, central business district, and River Market – are to the north of the station. One convenient way to reach these other districts is to ride on the Kansas City Downtown Streetcar. It provides free service between Kansas City Union Station and the River Market, and stops every few blocks. Another option is to ride on the Main MAX bus line, which stops at many downtown destinations. If you’d prefer to cycle, Kansas City has a bike-sharing program that allows you to pick up and drop off bikes at over 40 locations around the city. Local taxis and ride-sharing services are also available. If you don’t mind walking, most downtown locations are not so far on foot from the train lines at Union Station.
Nearly all trains to Kansas City stop at Kansas City Union Station. It’s the largest union station in the region and houses shops, restaurants, and museums along with all transportation services. Most train passenger services can be found on Level 1, also known as the Grand Hall. Anything related to Kansas City train tickets or train tickets in general can be sorted out here. There is an info booth with an ATM, clean public restrooms, and Quik-Trak kiosks. For those who want something light and quick to eat, there is a cafe available; for those who want a bigger meal, there are a few sit-down restaurants. Shopping opportunities are also available. On Level B, you can find a private nursing room across from the Innovation Center. Level B also features entertainment options, including a movie theatre, a live theatre, a planetarium, and an escape room. Level C includes a gift shop, an exhibition area, and a gallery.
