We had rental vehicles for 3 month stay in CR. Initially rented a small 4WD vehicle for wife and me, then traded for larger 4WD when 3 more family members arrived. Staff at main office made exchange smooth. Subsequently had some issues with the battery-controlled key device (for locking/unlocking doors), but office staff provided a replacement immediately and without question. While we never really needed 4WD (even while fording couple of shallow streams), high clearance was helpful on poorly maintained dirt roads. Whatsapp communication on several occasions with Jorge, my primary contact in main office, was quick and efficient. Senior agent provided his direct phone number to facilitate future rentals if we return. I strongly recommend this organization.

Great customer service and no issues with the reservation. The front desk gave us an overview of Costa Rican traffic laws and helped us select the best insurance. They even gave us some other travel tips we used throughout our vacation! Will definitely use them again!

I purchased car insurance when I booked the rental and upon arrival I was notified that the Allianz insurance I purchased is not valid in Costa Rica and I had to purchase insurance directly there which added an additional $225 to our rental. Kayak shouldn’t offer car insurance if it’s not accepted in that country.

Customer service was great. They didn't try to scam me with hidden fees or falsehoods about coverage. Another in my group rented through enterprise and they tried to make him pay all sorts of extras that aren't required (we rented in San Jose). I also had some car issues on the way back and they were helpful and understanding.

Felt sort of corralled into the upgrade I got. Booked a 7p 4x4 online and was told in person it was only 2WD. Was then told the Land Cruiser I got was the only one left on the lot. 3 hours later my brother in law got a Land Cruiser and was told it was the last one on the lot.

Budget in Costa Rica, our flight was delayed so we called the 1800 number where an automated message told us that 'if your flight is delayed, not to worry they have the flight info and will hold on to your car, even if they don't have the flight number we hold your vehicle for 24hrs' So that was a relief until we got to the Budget booth in the airport where they told us they didn't have our car and that we should have let them know. I told them we called and heard the message and they responded with 'oh you didn't call the Costa Rica line' They ended up having a car we could use but it was a larger more expensive SUV and needed 'a better insurance package' so we had to pay more than we 'budgeted' for. Use another car rental place in Costa Rica there's lots to choose from.

Car was clean but there were a bunch of big scratches and dings. Reflectors and caps on bumper were missing. Fortunately got a video of the car prior to departure since they tried to blame them on me when returning it. They tried to pressure me into buying extra insurance by putting a $3000 hold on my credit card in case of accidents. I don't suspect this is different from other rental car agencies in the area though. Took over an hour standing in line to pick up the car. No address to return it caused me to drive around for 30 minutes trying to locate them. Facility was clean, bathrooms were provided, checkin counter at airport is easy to find. Overall experience was mediocre.

We had a REALLY bizarre experience here, where somehow the morning of return, our car got damaged, and we lost the deposit. We were staying at a parking lot with cameras that seemed like it was in a safe area. It couldn't have been hit by another car because there was a curb and large strip of grass in front of the parking spot. And when we brought it back, the owner pointed out the damage almost before we even walked out to see the car. I hadn't even noticed at that point! This sounds crazy but it felt almost like they'd tracked the car and damaged it before return to take the deposit. I know that's dumb, but there were just really weird vibes to the whole experience. The car also had issues starting. Engine light was on since we picked it up but we were assured everything was fine. It didn't start on two separate occasions. Maybe try elsewhere!

I prepaid $700 for my rental car on line understanding that I would have a pay for insurance. Estimates from my guidebook indicated that it would be $10-$30 per day for a 9 day trip. When I arrived I was charged $825 or $90 per day for insurance alone. I had prepaid so I couldn’t change car companies and felt cheated. I was told I should have read the fine print. If that is the policy, it should be made very clear the the cost of insurance will exceed the cost of the rental.

Wouldn’t accept my credit card insurance coverage without a written letter—which is not a legal requirement but something they do so they can sell you their insurance. It was labeled as “on site” at airport. It was not. The car was pretty beat to hell.

I would avoid. Nice people but terribly disorganized. We paid for an SUV but when we arrived they said they didn't have any. Didn't really offer a solution (said we could just wait a few hours for an SUV but they are unsure if one will come) so we took a sedan. This car then broke down on us (but thankfully they were quick to fix it). They also ended up making us pay for insurance as they didn't accept my credit card's insurance.
