Trains to Syracuse will arrive at Syracuse Station, located at the north end of the city, just a short distance from the city center. Unlike other larger cities, Syracuse has minimal traffic, which makes getting around town easy and quick. The station is located right off the interstate, so you can get to the center in no time. Syracuse Station serves as the regional transportation center and is a hub for many of the intercity buses. The SY16 bus departs directly from the station and will take you to the center. If your train arrives late in the evening, there may not be buses running. In this case, you may be better off taking a taxi. Taxis in the area are generally plentiful and easy to get. You can also choose to use a ride-sharing app, like Uber or Lyft, which are popular in the city.
Syracuse Station is located just a short distance away from Onondaga Lake, a gem of the city. If the weather is nice, you might visit Onondaga Lake Park and take advantage of the miles of paved trails and admire the natural beauty of upstate New York. Located on the east shore of the lake is Destiny USA, a massive shopping and entertainment complex, the largest in upstate New York. For more shopping, head to the historic Armory Square, a trendy spot for shopping, dining, and nightlife. If you are into history and engineering, check out the Erie Canal Museum. For art and architecture, you can make a visit to the Everson, a museum housing an impressive selection of American ceramics.
