I’m going to focus on the negatives. The biggest two negatives were: (1) it took over three hours before my rental car was ready; and (2) the electric car’s batter would not charge beyond 43%. When I made the booking and when I was checking in to pick up, it was clear that I was dropping the car off at the DCA airport, which is around 190 miles from the rental pick up. After being assured the distance of the car would be around 250 miles, I agreed to use the electric Chevy. However, because 43% charge only can go around 100 miles, I had to charge the car 3 times. Each charge time was about half an hour and charging ports aren’t that populous so it would take a fair amount of time to be able to even get to the port. Ultimately, what should have at most been a four hour excursion ended up being 8 hours.

The car was filthy and had roaches. It took a long time to get support on the phone. The drop off was easy and the drop off staff was polite and genuine about the car’s condition when I returned it to them.

At no point was I informed of an additional $244 required for an authorization hold. I paid for the vehicle upfront, through Kayak. My receipt from Kayak only stated an additional $44 was needed at pickup for taxes and fees. If you do not have the additional unknown funding for authorization, and use a bank card, they up it to $500 for the authorization hold. Without the additional unknown funds, you are unable to rent the vehicle. While dropping off the vehicle another customer was in tears over not having additional room on a credit card for the authorization.

Only improvement could have been with their pricing. I ended up getting there 30min earlier than expected. Instead of saying no problem, I was told I need to drop the car off 30min earlier on return. They have every right to expect compensation for their product/services and if 30min is no big deal then the guy says well he's just 30min earlier than that (and this logic never ends) and Hertz could be out a significant amount of money. But it also took me more than 30min to go through the rental process, get the car, and leave the airport. It just seemed like the company wanted every $0.10 they could get. Maybe a little flexibility would have been better. Still no complaint.

Hertz has the absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced. The 800 number was not located in the US. There was never a supervisor available the 4 times I called. I used their email and it says they will reply within 2 weeks. It took them 3 weeks to reply by email.. I finally got ahold of them on twitter only to be ghosted. When I arrived to pick up the car, the exact issue I was trying to contact them about happened. Luckily the counter folks were nice, but it still resulted in us waiting 2 hours for our car to be ready…. Never again will I rent a Hertz brand car

Went above and beyond expectations. It was our first time to rent a vehicle for over the road travel due to an emergency. The staff at Hertz in Norfolk -Jacobay- and the staff member in Memphis who signed the car in welcomed us back home It was a nice touch after two rough days. Stay the course:

Was told by Hertz that the insurance I purchased on kayak wasn't valid and that I needed to purchase insurance directly from them. They didn't have any cars in stock and I had to wait an hour for a car to be returned. When I got into the car it was disgusting. There was some sort of oil/fluid on the center console and arm rest, the car hadn't been cleaned.

I had to cancel. I needed to rent a car so I could get my daughter to a safe place. It would have been the most economical way. But unfortunately you cannot rent a car without showing your credit card in person. Who knew. I can buy plane, train and bus tickets but I cannot rent a car. So I had to cancel.

Though I reserved a car and had all ID and Credit cards needed, they would not rent to me. Apparently recently moving affects my ability to rent a car. Agent told me I could Uber to an off site rental location, but not other resolutions were offered.

Agent for car pick up was quick, friendly, efficient. Same for drop off agent. Car had issues - low tire pressure light would not go off despite trying to fill the tire. Lights would not work on "Auto" so had to put them on manual. Got "Change Oil Soon" light during rental. One suggestion is to include a link to the vehicle's owners manual in the rental agreement, or e-mail the link to the customer. I had to search and search online for info that would have been in the owners manual.

I paid to rent a vehicle from Budget at the Norfolk airport. Well, budget at the norfolk airport is not actually at the airport. It’s a mile down the road. I learned that by waiting in line at the rental counter for an hour just to learn that the agency at the actual airport was not the one I had a confirmation with. So we Uber down the the “Budget at the Norfolk airport” just to find out the store was closed. You see our flight arrived at 4:00PM and “Budget at the Norfolk airport” closes at 1:00 on sundays. Needless to say I never picked up my rental for the week because I had to be at my destination in OBX 2 hours from the airport that night. We did have the greatest Uber driver that played Baby Shark for my daughter the whole way. Thanks for absolutely nothing “Budget at the Norfolk airport” Seriously Hope Kayak can reimburse me cause Budget refused.
