Hertz called at 5:16pm the night before the SUV pick up to say they had no car for us to pick up the very next morning at 8am. They instructed us to call the Hertz customer service for options but the only option given was a refund. I asked for many other solutions to help me obtain a vehicle but he was unable to anything but a refund. As refund does not help me in 15 hours when we arrive in the location to pick up a vehicle. We still needed a vehicle for the hockey tournament within 15 hours. They gave us no solutions but said my only option was a refund. I had prepaid for the entire rental for the weekend about $350. We ultimately had to rent another auto for $1,100. Hertz has terrible customer service and failed us as we had no choice but to rent another SUV at the last minute pricepoint. Here is what could have been better - moved an SUV to the pick up location for us, reserved an SUV at another location, preplanned our rental so a SUV was available in the first place, offer another larger vehicle, offer any vehicle, given me the difference monetary between what I did pay and was required to pay to rent a SUV last minute. I am disappointed with Hertz.

I accidentally placed an order for a car at a different hertz 25 minutes down the road. I thought I had ordered from the hertz by the airport. The rep I was working with wanted to help me but didn’t know how. It is also of note that the place 25 minutes away, closed at noon, and I had a 1 pm pick up. So even if I made it to the correct place, I would have still been out of a car. After the rep roamed the building for 15 minutes trying to find out how to help me he came back and told me I had to call the 1-800 number, that they couldn’t help me. I called, and every time the automated service would hang up on me. I was in town for a wedding, and fortunately a friend was able to come pick me up. While I waited, all the reps yelled to each other about looking forward to getting drunk that night, not once asking if I needed any help. Hertz should change their name to Hurts.

The booking through Kayak ended up at Priceline which booked through Hertz. Hertz charged my card 6 weeks prior to rental which was fine. I needed to advise of a 3 hour delay in arrival time. When I called the rental counter 6 hours prior to arrival I was told by the counter person that they had NO cars available for me even though they had been paid for it. Priceline was absolutely NO help as Hertz made the reservation and charged the rental. Hertz was of little help as they had no live agents available to fix this problem. Only after going back to Priceline and forcing them to put me in touch with a live agent at Hertz and spending 90 minutes on the phone did Hertz agree to an alternate location to pick up a car. The booking there was made by an overseas agent at the "best available rate" on the day of travel which was $175 higher for the week higher than the original booking. Fortunately for us, the counter agent felt sorry for us when we picked up the car and adjusted the rate to the original booked and paid for. We still dealt with the refund received later for the original booking and resultant double charging of the credit card.

I booked a vehicle from 5:00am until the following night, and received confirmation for my reservation. I live in North Park area and had to drive all the way to San Ysidro to the border (about 30 minutes/ 25 miles). Little did I know that when I got to the airport and went to the desk, there was a piece of paper that listed the hours: 8:00am - 8:00pm. I tried calling the reservation line at least 10 times and no help. I tried seeking help from the airport workers and someone took a picture of my reservation on my phone to check, and never came back. I was waiting for probably 30 minutes before giving up. I’m just furious for the amount of time and gas wasted. Why confirm a booking for 5:00am, WHEN NO ONE WILL BE THERE??? Ridiculous.

The drop off and shuttle to the terminal was the only process that was smooth. The branch manager that “helped” us barely helped. He did not provide any information up front. For example, when we went to pay, we gave him our debit card. He asked “are you sure you want to use the debit card?” And we continued with “why should we not use it” just for him to explain the difference in deposit. We were already there for 45 minutes - the manager just didn’t seem to be efficient in providing us with details which led to many questions that he took forever to respond. We wished he had a sense of urgency since there were multiple people waiting to be helped and we also wanted to get our day started. We arrived at 8:15 a.m. and didn’t leave until a few minutes after 9 a.m. I was genuinely surprised by how slow it was to get a car. Additionally, the pricing structure is ridiculous. To drop off the car at a different location charged us almost the same amount as renting. Furthermore, to amend our return time to add another hour costed us another $13. It’s ridiculous that Hertz try to charge for every single possible thing - and the tax/fee associated with it, that was bonkers. Please fix your cost structure to be more realistic.
