POPULAR STATION | Venice Santa Lucia |
POPULAR TRAIN COMPANY | Italotreno |
Most passengers on trains to Venice will arrive at Venice Train Station, officially known as Venice Santa Lucia. This station is located in the Cannaregio district in the historic center of downtown Venice. Venice itself is relatively small and geared toward pedestrian travel, so most destinations are walkable. That being said, there are also other forms of transport. The public water buses, or vaporetti, are an affordable option for getting around town. Line 1 can take you from the Venice trains at Santa Lucia station to the popular downtown areas of Rialto and San Marco. Service is affordable, frequent, and operates until late at night. If you have a lot of luggage, be prepared to pay a bit extra. You can buy single tickets or travel cards that range from one day to seven days. Another transport option are the private water taxis. Although they’re more expensive than the water buses, they can be faster and more customized.
For passengers with Venice train tickets who only have a few hours to explore the city, it’s possible to leave your luggage at Santa Lucia Train Station. Head to Platform 1 where you’ll find a privately run luggage storage service. It’s generally open seven days a week from early morning to late evening. Alternatively, if Venice trains bring you to the mainland Venice Mestre station, there are luggage services available there near Platform 1 as well. The operating hours and costs are similar at both stations.
