A five-minute drive from Mont-Saint-Michel, the Best Western Hotel Montgomery, Pontorson, France, sits in a pleasant little town ideally placed on the border between Normandy and Brittany, close to the sea and to many famous spots along both coasts. Set in a building of real character, the hotel keeps a cosy bar, a garden, and a lift, with comfortable rooms that make an easy place to settle in after a day out. The setting in Pontorson makes a calm, well-placed base for exploring the bay, the abbey, and the green countryside of the Norman-Breton border. Mont-Saint-Michel, the great abbey rising from its tidal island, is the headline draw, with the walled corsair port of Saint-Malo, the oyster town of Cancale, the seaside resort of Dinard, and the medieval streets of Dinan all within an easy drive. The Couesnon River runs through the town toward the bay, and Pontorson sits at the very threshold of one of France's most unforgettable sights.
