Electric car rentals in Fort Lauderdale, Florida

I liked the car. But the pickup experiences and customer service were mostly awful. I was misled into booking the car for the non-airport Ft Lauderdale location, which at any rate was set to close so soon after my arrival that it was doubtful I could have made it there on time. No one warned me about the close timing or the fact that there were 2 locations in Ft Lauderdale and that they might get confused. Worse yet, the different Sixt locations operate as if they're almost entirely independent, meaning that no one was authorized to simply switch my reservation location, even as I was willing to pay extra to do so. I wasted between 8 to 10 hours of my vacation between waiting at Sixt locations, on the phone with Sixt, and driving to and from West Palm Beach because of Sixt's inability to process a simple change. For some reason, the "best solution" they eventually offered me was to pay a premium for a 1-day carryover rental to pick up the remaining 11 days at a different location that was closer to where I was staying. But for some inexplicable reason, I couldn't just get the new agreement over the phone; I still needed to drive 90 minutes roundtrip to West Palm Beach to sign the agreement in person. The wait was excruciatingly long, with just one person working there at the desk and taking forever to process the one person in front of me. And then the most offensive part... The person at the desk upcharged me for liability insurance, claiming that I needed to get it because of Florida law and refusing to let me proceed with the contract, even after I said I didn't want liability insurance or think I needed it. The guy gave me his name and number in case of problems, but when I called later, it was the wrong number. Later, when I complained to Sixt, they reversed the extra insurance charge--appropriately--as I'd independently verified that I in fact was already covered by my insurance and didn't in fact need it. If I wasn't already exhausted from this whole experience, I might have looked into suing Sixt for deceptive practices. The only silver lining to this story is that one Sixt employee on the phone seemed legitimately interested in helping me solve the problem in spite of what I was originally told where insurmountable challenges and the need for me to file paperwork to get my money back. That employee apparently handled it so I didn't need to file the paperwork after all, and I did eventually get the sleazy extra charge refunded. I will definitely pay a premium to avoid Sixt in the future. Not worth the hassle.

Originally the vehicle was supposed to be a Toyota Camry, even though there were a large number of vehicles in the lot, the attendant said that the only vehicle they had for me was a Mazda 3 hatchback, After many attempts the only offer was a $10 reduction. Then we drove to Orlando and we contacted SIXT, their support team indicated to visit one of their units in a hotel lobby, there the gentleman was very supportive and offered a Mazda CX 5 SUV, which was more proper as a retired Veteran with a bad back.

Very poor service Im so frustrated about my first car reservation with you. My reservation with you was suppose to start at 20:00 the 27th of February and when I arrived at the airport car rental center they told me that the sixt rental car close at 20:00 !!!! Can you explain me why didn’t you advertise me at the moment of the reservation ?? I’m in the obligation to take a uber to go at my condo in Deerfield Beach at the cost of 45 USD plus tip !! I’m asking you a refund for this expense and a reduction for the damage and the day I can’t have the car. Sincerely regret to share my bad experience on the first day we try your service !!! Attendant at pick up, couldn't be bothered to to help in any way just wanted paper work signed and for us to leave.

Too much hidden cost. I paid 300$ + 80 at the desk and surprise $ 640 for an old mega car that i would't. All for 10 days. $ more than $ 1000. Too expnsive

This was a last minute rental because of flight cancelation. The agent was friendly and helpful, the pickup and drop off were easy and uneventful. Through force of habit I typically rent from another company, Due to this experience I will rent from Avis in the future.

I became a Gold member in order to avoid lines and people. I was told I didn’t have to get in line just look at the screen for my name. My name wasn’t in the screen so I had to make a line. They finally tell me the exact location of my car. I get to it and I see a car that does not match what I rented. I asked two different workers there what do I do. Both of them tell me to just take the car. I explained to them I just arrived from a long flight and I have a baby. I do not want to be back and forth so please confirm. They both tell me just take it, not a problem. When I am leaving parking lot, the manager tells me I have to get all my things out of the car and go to a different car. I explained to him what his two workers have said to me and how I had already put my baby’s car seat in. Main reason I wanted confirmation before. He gets mad and me and tells me to move out the car quickly. I found it rude and disrespectful for him to treat me that way after I wanted to avoid all that and become a gold member for what? Still issues came nothing was smooth. I had my family of five getting out in the middle of the exit, rearranging the stroller and bags again. They refused to give me my license until I switched cars, acting as if I would steal something? I never cared for the car I just wanted to get my family to the hotel. The treatment was unnecessary especially since I was the one making sure which car to take. Avoid!

Booked with you all for a different location then wasn’t “allowed” to drop off to my selection point. Had to cancel last day and was only given $15 back for loss of a whole last day. Hertz informed me I was not allowed to drop off car at airport with a lock box or drop keys somewhere. Then when I took car a day early to Hertz in Port Charlotte, the manager told me I actually could have dropped off key to Punta Gorda airport, which was my original plan. Lost lots of money including paying fir Uber rides because I no longer had rental car. Horrible experience

Happy with everything! Will hopefully see you again on our next trip down

The wait at airport and confusion over what vehicle's that are actually ready and available was less than ideal but I understand . The truck we rented had a very strong smell of marijuana smoke that never went away all week. Especially noticeable after truck sat in 100* sun and then you opened doors.

They refused to rent me a car because I only had a debit card … even though I told them they could authorize as much money on the card as they wanted

I loved that my reservation was honored. I was in and out and my family was comfortable. I was not happy that the vehicle was NOT cleaned. There were Cheerios everywhere. I guess the detailer did not move the seats and the smell was sweaty heat. Finally, I make it home and forgot that I left the house key on the car ring. We went straight backm maybe 45 minutes and the attendant told me that the car was gone and they did not know where it was. I was so upset, but thank God for Pierre (if I'm not mistaken) the Supervisor who got on his cart and search the floors and found my key in the car that was indeed in the building. This encounter took 1 whole hour. Other than that this would have been the perfect rental experience. Life happens. I would still re-book.

Car was extremely dirty. Paid way too much compared to other sites. Was charged additional fees without being told. Put reservation under my name and wasn’t able to change to my husbands name. I do not drive in the USA. Again paid extra. Terrible customer service when I called to rectify charges. Never again!

I had booked for a suberban with my family of 5 and they handed me a nissan rogue at the same price claiming that there was more but at the same price as a subwrban without wanting to compensate me…shame on you!!

Car was clean. It ran well. HUGE lineup at checkin counter. Only half the counters. Waited over one hour to pick up car.

First and last time I rent with Dollar. I have no idea if it was Fort Lauderdale, but I had to stand in line for 2 hrs to get to the counter. Over 150 people on line and only 3 clerks, RIDICULOUS!. And once you get to the counter, another 2 hrs waiting to get the car!. I stand on line at 12:36pm. Got to the counter at 2:36 pm and finally I got my car at 4:37pm!! Ahhhhh!

Impossible to reach any human at Dollar to change or add to an existing reservation. Very bad not to have ANY customer service to speak to. Will not rent again from Dollar.

Online I was told it would be $41 for the entire rental. At the counter I was told I needed insurance and it was an extra $180. I said I would use my credit card that has insurance and that I have progressive. I was told I had to pay the extra $180 to rent the car and that I'd been told about that in advance. In 20 years of renting multiple cars I've never had this experience before. In the past the price told to me online has always been the price I've paid using my credit card that has the insurance benefit. VERY disappointed. Unfortunately we were offsite and my family was with me so I unhappily paid it. If I was by myself I would have left and figured something else out as a matter of principle.

They upgraded my car but the car has been damaged the whole way down the passenger side on the right side of the car. The staff were rushed so they quickly gave me the keys and paperwork and sent me off. Once I arrived to my hotel, I realized the passenger door wouldn't even open from the inside or outside. I had also purchased 3rd party insurance which said that I don't need to purchase any extra insurance from the rental car. When I went to pay, they said I needed to purchase their insurance and decided to charge me and extra $120. I wasn't very impressed with the service and I felt like I should have been given a discount for the damage. My friend that I was driving with had to sit in the back seat as we couldn't work the front passenger door. It was embarrassing to drive around with the damage. The car rental refused to change the car as the car rental agreement has already been signed.

When you land at FLL you have to take a bus to the Car Rental Center. Then you have to go to another line and wait for the U-Save shuttle and get taken across town to their location. Expect an hour of walking, waiting and being shuttled around before you ever get to a car place. The first U-Save shuttle doesn’t get to the RCC until 7:30 & they don’t open until 8 and don’t answer phones before then. If you land at 6am, like we did, you are going to wait for a hour at the RCC and then about an hour at the U-Save location and probably won’t be in a vehicle until after 9. Since no employees except shuttle drivers show up until 8 and the fleet is small you will get a car returned recently that hasn’t been cleaned. They will NOT accept the insurance purchased through Kayak (and you’ll have to call Allianz and have them refund it … gives you something to do while waiting in line) & they won’t accept your credit card/personal auto insurance. You WILL have to buy their insurance. There’s no point in screaming at the one guy working the desk, like all the other customers do, he is immune to it long ago and you are trapped unless you want to call a taxi to get to a real car rental place.
