Didn't get the car I wanted so I cancelled the rental and had trouble getting KAYAK to make a refund. Rent direct not through KAYAK.

Hertz pick up location agent was NOT helpful. When I arrived he told me he had NO car for me to rent. I was able to get a vehicle only because of my luck and ability to work things out. A customer showed up to return a vehicle and I suggested to the agent he let me take that car. He allowed me to take the car without a full tank of gas and a dirty interior. I was late for a meeting and took the car "as is". This is no way to run a car rental agency.

The pick up and drop off process. No inspection done prior to leaving and having to drive vehicle out of gate myself. Incorrect gas mileage listed on paperwork. Employee not opening office on time due to being late.

The rental was arranged through Kayak, so I’m not sure if Kayak or Hertz is the problem here. The arrangement I made through Kayak wasn’t even available because the drop-off location wasn’t open on the selected day. Even worse, the car I selected wasn’t even available at the pickup location. Even I though I paid for a rental car, I never actually used one. I had to arrange different plans since time was a concern. Again, I’m not sure who’s responsible for this mixup but these are issues that shouldn’t happen when making reservations. I’m guessing there should be better communication between Kayak and the companies they’re working with.

I purposely rented a van for space. During my flight to Birmingham, I had a voicemail left telling me that my confirmed van was not available. They "upgraded" me to a smaller vehicle and one with worse gas mileage. Caused me a lot of hassle due to the smaller size. I rented a van because I needed the space and would be carrying items. I would not have used Hertz if I had known a van was not an option. What's the point of a confirmation when it's actually not confirmed????
