Avoid renting from Routes Car & Truck Rentals in Ottawa. The pricing is not worth it. There will be hidden and questionable fees. The location is not convenient, so once you’re there, you have little options to make other arrangements. They will not honour pricing from web bookings, they’ll tell you to figure it out with the service you booked through and that you should have read their terms and conditions. Horrible customer service and business tactics. I opted to not take the rental and go back to the airport to rent from a reputable rental company. Look at their Google reviews, you will notice a common thread. Buyers beware.

I thought Enterprise delivered the vehicle to you. It was a $25 taxi to their location. Also found out the hard way that the owner’s manual was entirely in French so couldn’t solve the issue we had with the vehicle

At the time of returning the car the sales person at Avis decided to tell me that I have a exceeded my Mika wage by 5000 km thank god I had all the proof that he commuted a mistake and he reversed the amount that was being charged . Everything else was fine

The vehicle was a year-old, high end Ford Escape SUV. Nice! However, the vehicle had not been cleaned when I went to pick it up at the agreed time, so I had to wait 30 extra minutes in their offices while they cleaned it. Secondly, the vehicle did not have snow tires. It was a dangerous trip. Given the winds, ice, and blowing snow, I was literally worried for some sections of the trip that we would have an accident and possibly die. Thirdly, one or more of the tires was not balanced. We had an 1100 km drive, round trip, and it was AWFUL the whole time, as the whole vehicle shuddered above 80 km/h. Going through Toronto, where the traffic was moving at 120+, the seats and all our luggage were shaking, and our voices were affected as we spoke -- that helicopter pilot sound. It was a long and extremely uncomfortable trip. It gave me a very long time to consider the negative reviews I would leave when I got home. This is one of them.

I was given a pickup location which was closed 2 months before the pickup date. I was not informed of this which caused a lot of stress ,inconvenience and unnessary delay. Not impressed. The reservation sent me to a Budget Rent a Car location in Ottawa that no longer existed. After taking a taxi from the Ottawa airport to the location identified in my rental agreement, I learned from the local car dealership that this budget location closed a while ago, so there was no Budget dealer, or Budget car there. I called Budget Customer Service, and they said this was not their problem. The only thing they would do is transfer my reservation back to the Ottawa airport and I could get a car there, however it would be over $200 more. I repeatedly explained that I had a reservation for a Budget car, at this location, for a specified price, but the agent didn't care. The local car dealership even got on the phone with the Budget agent and explained the situation, and described how I was the third customer in the last few weeks to arrive at their dealership looking for a Budget car, but the Budget Customer Service agent didn't care, he just kept saying this was not their problem. It took me 2hrs of hassle, a taxi fare, and an extra $200 in the rental to get a vehicle. The car dealership drove me and my daughter back to the Ottawa airport, and I greatly appreciated their kindness.

The car was very clean and comfortable, rode very smoothly and quietly. I appreciated the fact that I did not have to return it to the downtown location but could leave it at the airport when I leave. Saves much time and effort when leaving on an early morning flight. The price quoted was very competitive. I will probably use Kayak again when I rent my next vehicle.

These guys are extremely flexible. I got stuck at the border twice and both times they allowed me to return the car 4-6 hours late, without any extra charge. Once the car was not clean and had smoke smell so an hour was wasted at pick up. Without any demand from my side they gave me a refund of 25 CAD to make up. The guy Vivek, is extremely friendly and accomodating. The downside of my experience is that I am still waiting for the refund of 500 CAD a month later, despite several reminders.
