Ford car rentals in Liberia

This is the worst experience I have ever had in my life. Lots of hidden fees. Absolute disregard for the consumer! I spent 2 hours to get a car that I ordered a week in advance.

Was renting a car for 2 days and was told i couldn't rent the car because i didn't have insurance. The whole reason for my car rental was because i didn't have a car. Got the collision package in case anything happened but it was pointless if i couldn't get the car. Wasted money for no service.

They screwed me out of at least $120. Scam artist. I’ll never use this company again.

Know that in Costa Rica there are mandatory insurance fees. In March of 2023 there are two: one is 15.99 a day and the other 29.99 a day. Our credit card offers primary insurance so we printed up a letter from them and brought it with us. This canceled out the 29.99 a day insurance but the 15.99 is required no matter what. These are not included in the quote you receive.

Easy pick up and drop off and the car was very clean

When we first rented the vehicle, we were told we had to purchase extra insurance so we took the highest coverage possible as the attendant told us that we would be covered for everything, When we went out to get the car, we noticed that the tire pressure light was on so we pointed it out to the attendant. He took the car to the back and he told us he filled the tire but not to worry about the light, because the light did not go off. We checked the rear tires which were worn but ok to drive on, and we checked the front driver side tire and it was brand new so we assumed that both front tires had been changed. We drove to our rental property in LaFortuna and drove around the area for a couple of days. We then noticed that there was a wobble in the wheel so when we checked it out we saw that the tire on the front passenger side was totally worn out and had threads showing - this is the one tire that we did not check when we picked up the car. We drove to the AVIS office in LaFortuna and he strongly suggested that we change the tire as it was dangerous to continue driving on the tire as it was. However, he did not have one in the office. So we put the spare tire on the car. We returned the next day and he told us he was unable to get a new tire for us but he could get us a different rental vehicle. We returned the following day to exchange our vehicle - the new vehicle was not 4 wheel drive and it was smaller than our original vehicle but we agreed to swap it. They did not offer to charge us less because we were getting less of a vehicle but they told us they would be charging us for the tire. So we had to pay a higher price for less of a vehicle plus the cost of a new tire even though the tire was in that shape when we originally drove away with the car. They accused us of overturning the wheel on the front passenger side. One of the men in our party is a mechanic and he asked them to explain how it is possible to spin only one tire on an AWD, they just kept repeating that we had to pay for the tire. We have been trying to talk to someone who can explain why the tire is not covered by our insurance and why we had to pay for it, but no one can answer us. So disappointing.

Hertz took my reservation however no cars were available at the time of the start of my reservation. The hertz dealer then said to use another private guy that he knew at an increased price. It was a scam and I am planning to report hertz to the better business bureau.

We had a credit card hold and reservation number for a 10 day rental. When we arrived they claimed they did not have any cars available that day or for two week! No assistance or concern for in convenience. Simply a shoulder shrug. Not typical for our experience in Costa Rican. Dropped the ball on this one Hertz!

I didn’t like anything. I placed a reservation a month+ ago, and we got there, they didn’t have any cars. The rude hertz rep said he could get one in “maybe a couple of days.” Mind you, we were a 4 hour drive from our destination. I wasn’t going to stay and wait for 2+ days and ruin my vacation. Then he tried to get us to rent a car in cash from some guy he knew outside at some garage. This place is an absolute scam. We called an Uber, cancelled the hertz car, and I will never rent from hertz again anywhere if these are the kind of shenanigans they allow to happen within their brand. they demanded insurance coverage that cost more than the daily rate of the car then they found a dent in the bumper (that was probably there prior to rental) and demanded payments for $256 because the insurance they sold us had a $1500 deductible get your insurance up front from an independent vendor for $10 a day instead of $30 a day and don't use Alamo

The employees were so incredibly kind and welcoming. They made the experience so fast and easy. I will absolutely use them every time for our travels to Costa Rica.
