This is one of the most beautiful photos I have seen in recent times and, what’s more, it fits perfectly with the goal of the competition: images filled with color that transmit sheer joy. This image radiates exhilaration, spontaneity, beauty. The young girl’s glee, looking into the lens so candidly, is one of the most genuine facial expressions I’ve ever encountered. Everything about this photograph captivates me: the childish delight, the camera angle, and the tones of red that invade the entire frame.

We received hundreds of colorful, creative and inspiring entries from all over the world. momondo experts whittled them down to a shortlist of 10 finalists, before Luis picked his winner. He also named a runner-up.

What Luis liked about his runner-up…

The first thing that comes to mind when looking at this remarkable photograph is the careful composition of all its elements. The staging of the girl on the right and the line separating land and sky abide by the classic Rule of Thirds. The contrast between the bold green nature and the vaporous orange is stunning. Finally, the silhouettes of the forest trees reflected in the stream ties up the scene beautifully.
