Used to have good value offer but not anymore

I booked a compact for fuel economy and was given a Dodge Charger which is terrible on gas. The Hertz website lists a hold of $200US plus the cost of the rental but they insisted on a $350CAN hold plus the cost of the rental.

Reserved vehicle type (small SUV) was given away to another customer so I had to take a full-sized pickup truck. I was also told that if I chose the fuel option that I would be charged at the going rate ($1.40/liter), instead I was charged 3x that. I was lied to and won't rent w/ Hertz again. The person at the desk was helpful, but the deception about the fuel price meant that instead of $20 I paid $60. Unacceptable and I'll never be back.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Javier, who I dealt with on return, was very professional. One thing I didn't like was that I was given 2 key fobs, connected by a thick wire. I was alone, and I didn't need 2 fobs. On pick-up, I asked that the wire be cut, because together the fobs filled my pocket. Staff said, we can't cut the wire, this is the way we do it. That may be convenient for staff, to keep track of all the vehicle's fobs, but I'M the one PAYING for the rental. Having to lug 2 fobs in my pocket all the time was inconvenient and kind of dumb as a business practice.

Friendly staff and assurance that if we had any problems they would help us out also genuine concern for our satisfaction.

The Rave 4 was the car I requested but was given the low end KIA . I like to drive a car I am comfortable with. However no problems.

Customer service

The service staff was great. The car itself was old and was pretty beaten up. Small amounts of damage all around the vehicle. Didn't feel overly clean. Probably due to its age and wear & tear.

They tried to switch vehicles on me, added a $750 deposit on a less fuel efficient SUB instead of an elantra. I did not rent with them. Very disappointing

My security deposit was not returned to me on time, even the staff said that after doing the return inspection they will transfer my money back but after 3 days I had to call and then they did the refund process. This made my card blocked for additional week for no reason.

I found the daily insurance extremely high.

I liked the price! What could have been better - the size of the car, it was TOO BIG for me.

When my partner and I tried to pay for our rental, the man at the booth declined my VISA card because it said VISA Debit (I used this card to book the reservation). He told me that you can use any card to book the reservation and that I needed an actual credit card to pay. So we left to find out what we could do, and a few family membera/friends offered to pay using their card. We also had another another travel credit card from our Australian Bank, but we weren't sure they'd accept it. We go back to the booth and explain our situation. We then ask him to try both our cards and he agreed. He quickly swiped and then said that they won't work because they are prepaid cards. He also could tell I was annoyed with the situation and said "go on, ask anyone else here, this is our policy, everywhere will need an actual credit card". My partner then asked him if we could pay in cash... the man said, "Nobody uses cash anymore". So, I said it was b.s. and left. The man working that day was irritable, confrontational, not willing to assist, not willing to help find us an alternative ... just simply didn't care. At all. Fast forward to later in the day when I contacted National to cancel our booking. I spoke to a customer rep who confirmed with me that the employee should have accepted both of our Australian cards if we had proof of a flight leaving Canada. I couldn't believe it. Anyway, I submitted a complaint and will never use National ever again.
