I had to argue against an additional $230 in fees on top of my prepaid “total.” At pick up they tried to charge my card the entire prepaid fee (already paid) plus $200 as a deposit. Had to argue that as well. Just be aware that fees may be tacked on due to state or local taxes not accounted for in the prepaid total. Also, I was charged for insurance I opted out of. Super frustrating. Just feels like a scam when you have to scour your receipt to determine what the actual charges are and what the actual deposit is … and why. The concept of pre-paid is lost on Hertz.
Was pleased that the small SUV i reserved had AWD without asking, at denver airport you probably would have to negotiate up to get it as none of the rental places there will guarantee AWD. also had a ski rack but that was just good luck, i didnt request it. anyway, well equipped for a week skiing. the check-in by the baggage claim was a breeze, as well as the drop off on return.

Overall experience was good. The problem is we rented a full size Fusion or similar. We had 4 adults and luggage. The counter rep said we were only entitled to a Prius midsize vehicle. I showed him our agreement and he stated that the vehicle type code was only for a midsize. He said he could upgrade us to the full size we rented for $35. In the need to continue our trip, I agreed and he printed out our new contract where our total cost went from $318 to well over $500. I said this was unacceptable and he finally agreed to give us the full size that was contracted. Not sure if this was just a typical up charge scam, but something you should not have to deal with during a hectic travel day.

The Dollar sales person lied to us. Her sales tactics were deplorable. I booked this car months ago. When we got there she told us that one of the ways along our drive may be closed from time to time snd that if that’s the case we couldn’t use a car but needed an SUV to get back. We are savvy travelers but also this was our first time To Vail. She told us she could give us a SUV but it would cost a bit more. But we would foe sure be ok. We said ok. It was TWICE the amount of money. The road was closed on the way back. But the other route the road was paved and fine and actually was so narrow that it would have been easier to navigate in our car vs the suburban. I also asked if we could change the car rental from 5 days to three as we didn’t need the car the whole time. She said no, it was one price and that was it. I’m certain that was a lie too. When we went to return the car I wanted to talk to someone but there was no one there. This is the most disgusting service I’ve ever received.
Great truck. No one was at the checkin to give the keys to.

I arrived at around 2:00 pm. My reservation was canceled because I was mor than 2 hours late. I didn’t know that they cancel all reservations more than 2 hours late. Had to pay $350 extra to rent the SUV or not renting at all. I’ve never heard of any rule like that, but the manager kept treating me like she was making me a huge favor. Definitely not renting with them again.
