It’s not easy finding cheap hotels in the Big Apple, but not impossible. To make it easier for you we’ve crawled through our New York city guide and selected 5 places that offer the best cheap accommodation in New York.

Hotel Edison

You will not meet many New Yorkers in Midtown where tourists flock to the theaters of Broadway, the lights of Times Square and to the top of the iconic skyscrapers high above the hustle and bustle of the city. This is also where the majority of hotels are located for obvious reasons. Although it is far more authentic to find a hotel a little further south, you can’t escape the fact that Midtown is the center of New York City’s main attractions. Additionally, the myriad of hotels results in competitive pricing.

Hotel Edison is one of the places where you will receive good value for your money. The rooms are nice and clean, the location is great and the hotel’s bar, Space Bar, is a cozy place to hang out in the evening.

The Milburn Hotel

The Milburn Hotel is a typical tourist class hotel. Book a night here if you want to have a nice place to sleep and have no compelling urge to dwell in luxury.

One of the benefits of staying here is that the hotel is close to the Lincoln Center, which is the perfect location if you love ballet, opera or classical music. You are also close to many of the city’s other attractions and have plenty of nightlife and shops nearby. The large suites are a welcome bonus, especially perfect for those traveling with children. Another winning feature is that breakfast is included, giving you that extra energy you need for a long day of sightseeing.

Nu Hotel

NU Hotel exists to be discovered. The décor blends modern design with Brooklyn’s local characteristics, and it is more than fair with the price.

It is located close to the attractions in both Brooklyn and Manhattan, and the rooms are decorated in a light, European style. Interestingly, the floors are covered with cork, the bedding is organic and the bathrooms are stylish with unique details. For example, you can leave practical messages for the domestic staff on the board next to the sink. In the largest rooms, you can even relax in a hammock. Other rooms are furnished with bunk beds, taking into account visitors with children.

NU Friends Suites are perfect for travelers who don’t want to share a bed. We just love it, and you will, too.

Hotel 91

When you enter Hotel 91 on East Broadway, you may wonder whether you are really in New York. The signs are all in Chinese, and all you will hear spoken on the street outside is Chinese. Do not worry! Jet lag may have gotten to you, but not to that extent.

Hotel 91 is located in New York but is in the heart of Chinatown and right next to the Manhattan Bridge. A shiny, marble lobby welcomes you to the hotel with its front desk on the second floor.

The 70 no-fuss rooms are simple and clean and give you exactly what you need. The hotel is perfect for those who want to experience Chinatown close up or for those who will enjoy the constant frantic activity of the area.

The Jane

The rooms are tiny, not surprising for this city, and some of them have a shared bathroom in the hallway, but this hotel offers plenty of history to make up for it.

After opening its doors for the first time in 1908, it was used mainly by sailors. Those fascinated by history will be drawn in by the fact that it was here that the survivors of the Titanic were housed. As the years passed, the place became a meeting place for the city’s cultural life and housed several clubs before becoming a hotel once again.

The Jane is, in spite of the small rooms, one of the hippest of its kind. The location, a few blocks from the Meatpacking District, is perfect – and the hotel bar is so popular that it can be quite difficult to get in. The Jane is a hotel that also draws in the younger generation who want cool but cheap.
