Accommodation in London is plentiful but expensive – there are
about 100,000 rooms in the city, but with an average price of £115
(~130 euros) per night, they are some of the costliest in Europe.
Staying at a hotel or guesthouse near a tube stop in Zone 2 rather than
Zone 1 is one way to cut costs; check out non-chain options, but be
sure to check out review of them on TripAdvisor as they can be
something of a hit or a miss. If you travel during the summer, it’s
often possible to stay in university accommodations that are basic and
cheap but more private than hostels. And try Laterooms
(www.laterooms.com) for heavily discounted rooms if you can bear to
wait to book until the last minute.
