Istanbul offers some of the most expensive luxury hotels of Europe as well as hypercheap hostels – and everything in between. Prices range is from 15 to 500 euros per night, or even more. Most double rooms in good-quality, modern and clean hotels in the centre (Taksim Square) are priced at 50–70 euros per night, including a decent breakfast. High season is Summer and Autumn, and prices in these months are at their highest. The Christmas and New Year holidays are also popular times for tourists.
Most travellers prefer to stay around Taksim Square or Sultanahmet. Sultanahmet is recommended for visitors who want to see all the historical sights and museums, do not mind the touristy environment and high prices, and want to go to bed early. Stay in the Taksim area if you are looking to explore restaurants, culture and nightlife. Traveling between Sultanahmet and Taksim is easy during the day, but in the evenings you’ll have to take a taxi.
Making hotel reservations well in advance is advisable. Most hotels have internet sites, where you can may find special offers. Sometimes it is also possible to negotiate a good price by calling the hotel directly.
