Czech Airlines has cut 25 per cent off four popular destinations from the UK. From London Heathrow discounted flights are available to Bologna and Moscow, while flights to Sofia and Budapest are available from Manchester Airport. Manchester flights are valid for travel between September 1 and October 23, while London flights continue until November 1. Book by midnight on Sunday, August 30.

Swedish airline Sverigeflyg has recently launched their seventh domestic route, flying between Bromma, close to Stockholm, and Östersund. This week they also launch their first Danish route, beginning operation between Bornholm and Copenhagen.

Also from Stockholm Bromma City Airport, BA will launch a new route to Billund (Jutland, Denmark) through their Danish partner Sun-Air of Scandinavia. The route will be operated twice daily on weekdays, and once on Sundays.

JetBlue Airways will add five daily flights from San Francisco this winter. Starting in January 2010 two extra daily services will operate to Los Angeles Long Beach Airport; one extra to Boston Logan; and also one extra to New York JFK. Starting in November new flights will be made available to Fort Lauderdale. Furthermore, JetBlue are planning to open new route to Montego Bay, Jamaica from January 2010. Routes will be made available from Boston Logan and Orlando.

Aer Lingus is offering a sale on flights between London Gatwick and its new European destinations. Fares are available from £ 19.99 (ca. € 23) one-way including taxes and charges. The new destinations include Eindhoven, Warsaw, Tenerife and Bucharest – all taking off on October 25. Flights to Lanzarote on the Canary Islands will start on October 27, while flights to the Lithuanian capital Vilnius will start September 10.

City Airline, the Gothenburg based Swedish airline, will launch a new weekly service between Gothenburg and Åre. The route is set to launch on December 27, operating until mid-April. Flights will be operated to Åre on Thursdays, and back on Sundays.

Monarch Airlines has offered an increased web discount on all flights booked before midnight tonight, Tuesday August 25. The discounts available are up to £ 20 (ca. € 23) on one-way flights and £ 40 (ca. € 46) on returns. Travel from Monarch bases at London Gatwick, London Luton, Manchester and Birmingham.

Sun-Air of Scandinavia is increasing its number of weekly services between Århus Airport and Bromma Airport with two. From September 25, there will be 11 weekly flights between the two airports. Bromma Airport is situated 15 minutes drive outside Stockholm.

SAS have announced a huge sale starting tomorrow, Thursday August 20. 650,000 tickets will be on sale, with flights available domestically and internationally, including destinations London, Tokyo and New York. A return ticket to Milano is available from DKK 695, while returns to NYC can be found from DKK 3,495. Travel from October 1 to December 15. Book by August 31.

Continental Airlines has announced that they will be joining the Star Alliance airline group on October 27, thus leaving the second-largest airline alliance SkyTeam. The airline announced that members will not need to make changes to their accounts and their mileage balances will not be affected during the switch.

Blue Air, the Romanian low-cost airline, will launch two new routes to London this winter. From October 25 new routes will be flying from Bacau to London Luton and Sibiu to London Stansted.

With their newly acquired Danish operator’s certificate, Transavia will very soon begin operating routes from Denmark to destinations outside the EU. The first new route will be for the Danish travel agency Atlantis Rejser, operating a flight to Egypt.

Ryanair has announced a cutback at Manchester Airport, with nine of their ten services operated from the airport moving to other British airports. From October 1 the routes ceasing are to Barcelona Girona, Bremen, Brussels Charleroi, Cagliari, Düsseldorf Weeze, Frankfurt Hahn, Marseille, Milan Bergamo and Shannon. These flights will be switched to East Midlands, Leeds Bradford and Liverpool. Passengers with bookings on these routes will be contacted and offered a refund or another flight.

Icelandic low-cost airline Iceland Express will be launching a new flight between Keflavik International Airport, located 50 km southwest of the Capital Reykjavik, and Birmingham. There will be a seasonal service, from July to September, operating on Sundays for 13 weeks.

Air Berlin has experienced an increase in the number of passengers flying to the Nordic countries over the last year. From July 2008 to July 2009, the number of passengers grew by 75 %. On that background, the airline last year upped the number of daily connections to Germany from one to two from Helsinki, Copenhagen and Stockholm.

Jet2.com will launch a new route between Manchester Airport and Kos for the summer of 2010. The airline will operate weekly services from May 26, 2010.

Ryanair had barely started to operate on the Skavsta (Sweden) to Dusseldorf route, before it has announced that it will close it down at the end of August. At the same time RyanAir has announced it will open a new route from Skavsta starting in March next year, without yet announcing what the destination will be.

In other RyanAir news, they have announced three new routes from Oporto. Starting October 29th, they will begin flying from Oporto to Faro, Karlsruhe-Baden and Dusseldorf Weeze. Oporto to Faro will be there first ever domestic route in Portugal. Oporto to Faro will operate Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday; to Karlsruhe-Baden on Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday and to Dusseldorf (Weeze) on Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday.


Dusseldorf is in the news today, gaining another new route from Basel operated by EasyJet and starting November 2nd. The flight will operate twice daily with early morning (7am) departures and early evening (19:35) departures from Basel.

As part of its fight against massive losses, British Airways has increased its fares by up to £40 per return flight on long-haul routes for Business Class passengers and an extra £20 for Economy-Class Premium Economy class flyers. The increased fees will apply to flights from the UK to the US, Canada and South America, the Caribbean,  Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, the Far East and Japan.
