Time To Kill, Take In An Art Exhibition In Los Angeles International Airport, Solar Cells In Denver

If you have time to kill at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), three new art exhibitions exploring the city's natural and urban landscape are on display located in Terminals 1 and 2 on the departures level, and in the lobby of the arrivals level in the Tom Bradley International Terminal.

In Terminal 1, 'Oceano Romantico' explores the beauty and the moods of the Pacific. In Terminal 2, 'A Place in the Sun: Desert Landscapes' is focussed on the deserts around LA, whilst in the Tom Bradley terminal, works based on urban LA are on display – this exhibition is entitled 'Alternative Places'.

All three exhibitions are free of charge and are on display through fall 2008. Only ticketed passengers can view the exhibitions in Terminals 1 and 2, but the one in the Tom Bradley International Terminal is open to the public as well.

As the environment becomes a hot topic in election year US, Denver Airport (DEN) implemented a two-megawatt solar energy system to help power the airport. The solar cells are spread out across some seven-and-a-half acres near the entrance of the Mile High megaport. Officials say it can generate more than three million-kilowatt hours of clean electricity annually, which equates to a reduction of CO2 emissions of almost 3 million kilograms (6.3 million pounds) per year. Denver International ranks as the fifth-busiest airport in the nation, and serves some 50 million flyers each year. Let's hope more airports around the globe follow Denver's lead.

They may be the leading fashion of kids and teans (and even adults), but when it comes to travel, Crocs and flip-flops can be dangerous - at least according to officials at Atlanta's International Airport. An airport spokesman says at least three children have been injured in the last two months after their flip-flops or Croc shoes got stuck in airport escalators. Airport officials released a 35-second public service announcement that airs every five minutes at the airport.
