Lufthansa is urging its passengers to check its website for details concerning flight information, admitting that an indefinite strike by maintenance, catering and cabin crew could cause delays and in the worse case cancellations. The strike started at midnight, but Lufthansa claims that its first 600 flights departed on time. Air India resumed its direct flight between London Heathrow and Kolkata, capital of West Bengali, Saturday July 26. The route will now be operated three times weekly, operating on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. British Airways has completed the purchase of airline L’Avion, suggesting an expansion of its new subsidiary OpenSkies launched last month. Full integration of L’Avion’s fleet of aircrafts is expected to be completed by the start of 2009.
In other news, the all-business-class carrier will launch a new route from New York on October 15. The route will fly from the JFK Airport to Amsterdam on a daily basis.
