Anybody travelling to Scotland this week can breath sigh of relief - at least for the time being. A planned strike due to take place later this week has been suspended to allow the two sides to continue talks.

Due to increased oil prices, Northwest Airlines is following a number of other US airlines and cancelling flights across the Atlantic during the winter. Routes that are affected include Hartfort to Amsterdam, Minneapolis to Paris and Detroit to Düsseldorf.

With fares starting at £21.99, (€28), winter flights from Bristol, East Midlands, Manchester and Newcastle have been put on sale by easyJet. Flights run from November 2nd to March 28th. The carrier is releasing its winter schedule base by base with other bases being made available over the next few weeks.

Air Berlin, will double the number of flights between Copenhagen and Berin Tegel, starting with its winter schedule in November. With the added flights Air Berlin will fly Copenhagen to Berlin twice daily, morning and evening on weekdays, with a single flight at weekends. Flights start at 199 DKK (€27) one-way including taxes and fees. Air Berlin flies twice daily from Copenhagen to Berlin as well as daily flights to Palma de Mallorca.

Ryanair will launch nine new routes from their newest base at Birmingham in the UK. The new routes from Ryanair’s 25th regional base will go to Alicante, Derry, Fuerteventura, Katowice, Kaunas, Krakow, Murcia, Palma and Prague. They will launch from November.

 

easyJet will add further routes from their Milan Malpensa base. Besides the route from Copenhagen we announced yesterday, easyJet will also launch routes to Brindisi and Lamezia-Terme in Italy, as well as Sofia in Bulgaria. The routes will launch on October 1.

 

Wizz Air will begin a three times weekly route between Budapest and Dortmund. The route will begin at the end of the October.

 

Click Air will on September 1 re-launch their route between Bilbao and Paris.The route which has been operated to Charles de Gaulle in the pastime will now be operated with Paris Orly as the base.

easyJet will launch a new daily route between Copenhagen and Milan Malpensa from October 1, adding to the rivalry on the route already existing with SAS and Sterling operating the same route. Sterling has had success on the route, which is why they have launched an equivalent route from Stockholm Arlanda. easyJey has also announced an equivalent route.

 

Starting on October 26, Sri Lanka Airlines will begin operating a route between the UK and the Maldives. Operating four times per week, the route will fly from London Heathrow and the capital city of the Maldives, Male. The route will have an estimated flying time of 11 hours and 15 minutes.

 

Italian airline, Air One, will launch two new flights from their base at Milan to the US. With return trips beginning at $ 799, including taxes and fees, they will operate new routes to Boston Logan and Chicago O’Hare. The routes will launch on June 26 and 27, respectively, operating six times a week to Chicago and five times weekly to Boston.

 

Ryanair will launch three new routes from their base at Shannon Airport in Ireland. All three route will fly to Poland beginning in November. The destinations will be Katowice, Gdansk and Lodz.

Due to high oil prices Thai Airways will reduce their routes between Bangkok and the US. They will close down the route to New York on July 1, while the service going to Los Angeles will see a reduction in frequency from 7 to 5 weekly services.

 

Also Irish carrier Aer Lingus will make changes concerning routes to the states. From November they will suspend their route between Dubling and Los Angeles.

 

Austrian low-cost airlines Niki will from November 1 start operating a route from their home base at Vienna to another Austrian city Innsbruck.

 

FlyGlobespan have launched a direct route between Edinburgh Airport and Croatian City of Dubrovnik. The route will be operated. The route will mark the second route between Edinburgh and Croatia, supplementing the already existing route to ***.

Jet2.com has announced a new route from their base at Leeds Bradford to Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt. The route will be operated weekly from February 9 2009.

 

Air Berlin will immediately start operating a new daily route between their base at Erfurt and Tenerife Sur, and another route between Berlin Tegel and Paris Orly starting on November 1.

 

Air Southwest will move their ski flights with destination Chambery to Grenoble, due to the possibility of congestion problems at Chambery Airport. From December 20, new route will operate from Newquay and Plymouth.

 

Wednesday we published 14 new winter routes from Ryanair, but today they have announced 25 extra routes. They will fly from October:Bristol to Gdansk, Marrakech and Szczecin.Brussels Charleroi to Fez, Gdansk, Manchester, Marrakech, Riga, Tangier and Wroclaw.Frankfurt Hahn to Birmingham, Klagenfurt and Prague.London Luton to Beziers, Derry, Kaunas, Rzeszow, Szxzecin and Trapani.Madrid to London Stansted.

Milan Orio al Serio to Berlin Schoenefeld, Brindisi, Fez, Ibiza and Madrid.
