If you’d prefer to wear feathers, pearls and minimalistic bikinis instead of woolen underwear, long coats and unbecoming knitted hats in the beginning of the year, then head for the Argentine town of Gualeguaychú.
On Saturdays during the months of January and February (sometimes also in March) the town dresses up for its annual and extravagant carnival. At daytime during the carnival the streets of Gualeguaychú burst with music and dancing, but the climax of the festivities is at night when the parade-floats hit La Corsódromo.

La Corsódromo is 500 meters long and 10 meters wide and has grandstands to seat 38.000 viewers. It was inaugurated in 1997 as the first of its kind in Argentina, and placed Gualeguaychú in the premier league of carnival cities along with Rio de Janeiro and Venice.
Gualeguaychú is located in Argentina’s north-east on the middle of the way between Buenos Aires and the Iguazu Falls.
