You can tell a Frisco native by the firmness of their calves, and as soon as you arrive in the city you'll see why. The hills are legendary - beautifully, cruelly steep - and even the fittest newcomer is guaranteed to break out into a tell-tale sweat. Luckily for the slackers among us, San Francisco offers one of the most varied and, frankly, enjoyable public transport systems in the US. Unless you've been hitting the Stairmaster in preparation, consider investing in an $11 day pass and letting the trams, buses and cable-cars take the strain for you.
