HOW TO GET AROUND IN NEW YORK

If you are going to New York for the first time, it is worth waiting
in line at the airport and take a taxi to your destination within the
city. It gives you an understanding of the cities geographical
placement to the surrounding Brooklyn, Queens and New Jersey.
However if you arrive at JFK, going with the new Airtrain Shuttle
directly to the subway that takes you to the heart of the city is much
faster and cheaper. If you arrive at Newark, the other way than cab is bus.

Getting around the city in the daytime should be done in a pair of
good shoes or in the subway. Study the map closely and find your
location and how you connect your placement and destination.
At nigh time when you are dressed to the nines, set your hair just
right, put on your highest heels or shiniest shoes...a cab is the only
way. Basically, subway in the day and cabbing it at night. Not that
the subway is dangerous at night, but it cramps your night styles.

Remember to give your cabdriver good tips (double the amount of tax
for the ride that you can follow on the taximeter and never less than
$2)  and it is OK to ask him to tune in to FM 88.3 for the best New
York Jazz station for the right soundtrack rolling in the streets of
the city.

In New York, you can go on Bike Tours with Bikethebigapple.com and instead of the usual walking, cabbing and subway trekking, you explore the New York Jungle on your bike. It might even make sense to buy a new bike in New York these days of the low $, and have it shipped back to your home destination. You save tons of travel expenses and get a different New York experience.
